I ENJOY BEING A GIRL

I Enjoy Being A Girl

Woof, kids!

What's in a name? Oh, just let me tell you.

My person, Moolie, is a huge Audrey Hepburn fan even though Audrey is no longer with us. So, when it came time to name me last August, I was tagged, Bella Regina. Bella, because it fits and was the moniker given at birth and Regina for a character portrayed by Ms. Hepburn in the movie, Charade...a Moolie fave. Oh, Aud was called Reggie, for short, in the movie...so here I am, Bella Regina Reggie.

Unfortunately, most humans are not such creative thinkers and when they hear my name just assume I am a boy. What about that? I mean here I am, cute as can be, with a designer collar loaded with the required tags , but also  a lovely little stoned encrusted R. Would you see that on a guy dog? Maybe, but I am clearly a girl. Anyone should be able to see that.

My leash? It definitely does not conjure up feminine images, and I will admit to you it is quite awful with absolutely no style. None. It is practical and serves the purpose as it is retractable and allows me to run ahead and explore. Oh, my people are adamant about leashing. Yeah, they are not the least bit tolerant of leash-free dogs in the park (unless it is really a dog park) or on the dog beaches. I don't really mind as it makes me feel pretty secure.  It is just that my leash is so horribly unattractive and masculine. It's black with a plastic handle. Picture that!! Ick.

Anyway, I got a cool surprise yesterday when Moolie pulled out a nice new collar and leash ensemble. Very pretty and stylish, both collar and leash this time. The leash is not retractable, so I am pretty certain I won't be wearing it often, but I will let you know the response I get from the humans on the el. Of course, they probably won't even notice as they are so busy looking in the mirrors on the elevator walls as we zip between floors.

One more thing, I saw Ellen on the elevator this morning (you will hear more about her, I promise). Well, it was pretty amazing. You know how people can give you a compliment and at the same time a slap-down? She is quite good at this tact and demonstrated it this morning when she said I was so cute, really cute...and that she thought I knew it. Hm.

Woof! Reggie is an absolutely fabulous name and you are a beautiful female dog! I can't imagine you as anything else! I agree that leashes are a must and too many dog owners think they don't need to use one. Well, whatever! Love your blog!!
